Church Music in the RSCM's Region One/Wakefield Area

Updated 9 January 2020

The Wakefield Area of the RSCM was absorbed into the new Region One from January 1st 2019, and this page is no longer run under the auspices of the RSCM Wakefield Area Committee, which no longer exists.  However, I do intend to keep the page running, but widening it out in scope.  I'm happy to advertise events connected with church music in our area, whether RSCM or not - please email details to me at the address at the bottom of this page.

Chorister Awards - If you have candidates for the next round of RSCM Bronze (Dean's) or Silver (Bishop's) awards, contact Tom Moore
( at Wakefield Cathedral in the first instance for local information.  The awards are administered by central RSCM and application forms are available from the RSCM website (see below).

The Festival as usual included the presentation of Chorister Awards to the successful candidates in the exams which happened a few weeks earlier, and below is a picture taken following the service.

We currently have almost 100 subscribers to our newsletter emails, and the events we have promoted in recent months have been successful.

Chorister Award Exams

The award exams will be in May.  The exact dates will be posted here as soon as they are confirmed.    A brochure with information about our Area awards is available.

Details of the syllabus, and entry forms are available centrally, on the RSCM's website -  our area is now Region One :

This is a temporary page for publicising events of interest to members of church choirs in and around the Wakefield/Huddersfield Area..  All RSCM affiliated churches have two contact names (in some cases the same person, which rather defeats the purpose of dissemination information as widely as possible), but it may be that other choir members might like to receive information directly.  Events advertised here are also open to non-RSCM members so anyone interested is at liberty to sign up for emailed information.  In just a few cases, the nominated RSCM contacts have not supplied the RSCM with email addresses (our email list was compiled initially from the RSCM's old Wakefield Area contact list).  These contacts may be sent some postal information from RSCM, but I am no longer able to send out information by post - I can however send out emails conveniently.

Visit also the RSCM's main website,
Churches are also invited to let me know of any events they are themselves organising to which they would like to invite others, and I will try to include details with the publicity emails.
