New Music Week

Ripon Cathedral

May 2018

As part of its annual programme, Ripon Cathedral will be holding a celebration of new church music in May 2018.

The pattern of regular services will include a full diet of liturgical music written by established contemporary composers, and will also encourage new compositions to be submitted to stimulate new church music locally and from a wider area. The Cathedral invites composers to submit new choral or instrumental work in both junior and senior categories, and will feature successful entries in services and recitals. Further details may be obtained from

This is a temporary page for publicising events of interest to members of church choirs in the Wakefield Area.  It is anticipated that this will be soon incorporated into a website for a wider area.  All RSCM affiliated churches have two contact names (in some cases the same person, which rather defeats the purpose of dissemination information as widely as possible), but it may be that other choir members might like to receive information directly.  Also, events organised by the RSCM committee are also open to non-RSCM members (although there may well be a higher cost involved), so we are happy to allow anyone to sign up for emailed information.  In just a few cases, the nominated contacts have not supplied the RSCM with email addresses.  These contacts are sent postal information, but it is not possible always to advertise everything that comes to the attention of the RSCM Committee by post - we can however send out emails conveniently.

RSCM member churches are also invited to let the secretary know of any events they are themselves organising to which they would like to invite others, and we will try to include details with the publicity emails.

If you would like to subscribe to RSCM Wakefield emails, please click on this link and enter your details as requested.  In the CHURCH field, please enter your church name (whether affiliated to RSCM or not), in the format place-dedication (e.g. Holmfirth Holy Trinity, or Honley St. Mary, or Holmfirth Methodist).  If you are not associated with a church, but sing in a secular choir, please enter the choir's name in the CHURCH field (e.g. Holmfirth Choral Society).  If neither of these applies, please enter in the CHURCH field the word INDIVIDUAL.

We currently have almost 100 subscribers to our newsletter emails, and the events we have promoted in recent months have been successful.  However, our committee really does need a few more helpers.   If you are willing to give up just a little time - only around 4 meetings each year, plus taking part in some of the events, do please get in touch.

Ruth Carter is now the secretary of the Area Committee.  She can be contacted by email at
